Thanks to my dear friend Tara Ellis, I've added another Dr. Seuss to the collection. The Ellises are preparing to serve their first term in Paupua New Guinea as Wycliffe missionaries. They can only take so much with them, and I jumped for joy when Tara offered to donate several... well A LOT of books to my collection. And it gets even better: I've never read this Dr. Seuss before! There always seems to be one more out there, wating for me to discover.
365 books, please is a year-long project by yours truly, Anna L. I am a pre-service teacher (a.k.a. grad student), aspiring to build my classroom library by December 31st, 2011. Each day, I'll contribute a work to the collection. You'll find short and sweet posts about pieces such as picture books, instructional texts, juvenile fiction, comics, classics, and more! Cultivating future generations of avid readers is the goal. Your support is greatly appreciated, and recommendations are welcome.

Motivational Units for Spring: A Good Apple Seasonal Idea/Activity Book for Grades 2-6
Wise teachers anticipate spring fever and plan accordingly.
Puzzles, plays, personality tests, projects, puppet patterns -- you name it. If it starts with a p, this book has it. The other letters make an appearance too.

Garage Sale Purchase # 11: My Favorite Foodles
"Don't just doodle,
use your noodle."
"Think of all your
favorite foodles!"
- back Cover
I actually really like this anthology. It looks kind of like a basal reader, but the literature is quality. Various genres such as non-fiction instructional text and poetry offer a rich literary experience. A few of the stories included are:
One Gorilla - Atsuko Morozumi
The foot Book - Dr. Seuss
No Puppies Today - Joanna Cole
The Desert - Carol Carrick
And that concludes my garage sale spree.
Garage Sale Purchase # 10: Ever Clever Elisa
I'm new to the Riverside Kids series, but I trust Scholastic.
From the back cover:
"Elisa is finally in a grade with a number -- just like her big brother, Russell. Elisa is old enough to take piano lessons, lose a tooth, or make a special Mother's Day breakfast. Sometimes Russell treats her like a baby, but Elisa is making big plans!"
Go ahead, girl.

Garage Sale Purchase # 8: Dumbo
Disney books are the best! I grew up on these too. Literally. I wonder if the people down the street raided my basement and made a profit off of my zeal for all things familiar. Hmm, it can't hurt to have a couple of copies on hand...
Garage Sale Purchase # 7: The Elves and the Shoemaker
Classic. Hats off to whoever invented elves. Brilliant. There's your creative introduction to deus ex machina.
Garage Sale Purchase # 5: Follow the Leader
Winnie the Pooh. Winnie. The Pooh. I've always cherished this legendary honey bear, but never stopped to consider just how odd his name is. Piglet, definitely yes. Tigger, no problem. But Pooh bear? Winnie the poo-bear? Whose idea was that? Winnie the Pooh...
Garage Sale Purchase # 4: The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Influence
I adored the Berenstain Bears as a kid. Mom thought that the bear cubs bickered too much and that the father image portrayed his role negatively...but she didn't think it was enough of a bad influence to stop reading to me about Mama, Papa, Brother and Sister bear!
Garage Sale Purchase # 2: Sun!
Spring BREAK!!!
At last. It has arrived. Granted, I still have two night classes this week, but I get to sleep in past 5a.m! Fulton county is giving me excatly what I need - down time. Going full speed from 5a.m. - 7p.m. was starting to take it's toll. This week I'm trading this...
So far I've made one garage sale purchase - $2.00 for an armful of reads. Hooray for cheap books! Hooray for time to read them! Bring on the extra sleep!
